Jewish Coaches Association Announces Finalists For 2014 Red Auerbach Award

The five finalists for the 2014 Red Auerbach College Coach of the Year Award were announced today. The Red Auerbach Award is given annually to the nation’s top Jewish college coach, as voted on by the members of the Jewish Coaches Association (JCA). The winner will be presented with the award at the Final Four in Dallas, Texas.

Josh Schertz – Lincoln Memorial University

In his sixth season, Coach Josh Schertz led the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters to a 28-3 record and the Division II NCAA Tournament. Shertz, who was named the South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year, has orchestrated an unprecedented 56 consecutive weeks of being ranked in the Division II National Poll. Coach Schertz has one of the highest winning percentages (.870) in all of college basketball over the last four seasons.

Scott Garson – The College of Idaho

In his first year at The College of Idaho, Coach Garson guided the Yotes to a 28-5 record and an undefeated season at home. The Yotes won the Cascade Collegiate Conference and were ranked #2 nationally in Division II NAIA.

Larry Brown – Southern Methodist University

In his second season at Southern Methodist University, Coach Brown led the Mustangs to a spot in the NIT and a 25-7 record; 10 more victories then the Mustangs accomplished last year. The Mustangs reached as high as #18 in the polls during the regular season

The Jewish Coaches Association (JCA) will host its annual meeting at The Adolphus Hotel in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, April 5th at 9:45am. Please join us as we celebrate the 2013-14 season over breakfast.
